{"id":10888,"date":"2018-11-24T10:10:29","date_gmt":"2018-11-24T18:10:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/?p=10888"},"modified":"2018-11-19T21:22:10","modified_gmt":"2018-11-20T05:22:10","slug":"10888","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/2018\/11\/10888\/","title":{"rendered":"Home Prices are Showing Signs of Weakness at The National Level"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While the fall season generally brings with it a boost to Canadian home prices, last month appeared to be an exception.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Teranet-National Bank Composite National House Price Index fell 0.4 percent month-over-month in October, a record low for a month that usually sees a bump in home prices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/?attachment_id=10889\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-10889\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-10889\" src=\"https:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Screen-Shot-2018--288x203.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"533\" height=\"376\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Screen-Shot-2018--288x203.png 288w, https:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Screen-Shot-2018--768x541.png 768w, https:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Screen-Shot-2018-.png 812w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly one of the 11 constituent metro areas recorded an increase on the month (the lowest [level] of gains since December 2012),\u201d writes National Bank senior economist Marc Pinsonneault, in his most recent note.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Montreal home prices rose by just 0.2 percent last month, while Toronto fell 0.2 percent and Vancouver was down 0.8 percent.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But Pinsonneault is quick to point out that the story varies between markets.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHome prices are showing signs of weakness at the national level, but the market is far from being homogeneous,\u201d he writes. \u201cFor example, on a seasonally adjusted basis, Vancouver showed no gain for a fifth month in a row, for a cumulative loss of 1.6 percent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In Toronto, condo prices remained on their upward trend, while Montreal saw a dip in the usually popular property type.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to Pinsonneault, industry watchers should brace for slowing price gains in the coming months, as the Bank of Canada continues to hike interest rates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWith interest rates set to rise again in the coming months, we don\u2019t see much upside for home prices,\u201d he writes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/2018\/11\/october-usually-good-month-canadian-home-prices-last-month-exception.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">October is Usually A Good Month for Canadian Home Prices &#8211; But Last Month was An Exception<\/a> by Sarah Niedoba | Livabl<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While the fall season generally brings with it a boost to Canadian home prices, last month appeared to be an exception.
