{"id":1244,"date":"2016-03-15T08:55:11","date_gmt":"2016-03-15T15:55:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/?p=1244"},"modified":"2016-03-14T09:44:33","modified_gmt":"2016-03-14T16:44:33","slug":"56-of-canadians-find-home-prices-unreasonable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/2016\/03\/56-of-canadians-find-home-prices-unreasonable\/","title":{"rendered":"56% of Canadians Find Home Prices \u201cUnreasonable\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a recent study conducted by the Angus Reid Institute, more than half of Canadians living in cities said that they are feeling the impact of the deterioration of real estate affordability\u2014even if they reside in smaller metropolitan areas outside the overloaded urban markets of Toronto and Vancouver.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The poll\u2014which involved two surveys of over 7,000 Angus Reid Forum users last February\u2014found that 56% of Canadians believe that home prices in their respective localities are \u201cunreasonable\u201d. This percentage translates to more than 500,000 individuals or households in the Greater Toronto Area and Metro Vancouver.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Angus Reid officials noted that the pressure of rising home costs is starting to make owners and prospective buyers take notice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWhat we find there is that, OK, it\u2019s not quite as bad as it is in Vancouver, but there is still a tension point. Just because things may be perceived to be more affordable or more reasonable in other markets, doesn\u2019t necessarily mean that that correlates to people feeling very comfortable,\u201d Angus Reid Institute executive director Shachi Kurl told the Vancouver Metro.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nearly half of Calgary respondents said that property costs in the region\u2014which is acknowledged as one of the worst hit by the effects of the poorly performing national economy\u2014fall under the categories of either \u201chigh, but understandable given the area\u201d or \u201cunreasonably high\u201d. Only 9 per cent said that Calgary prices are \u201ca bit low\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The persistent issue of affordability has spurred calls in recent months for federal authorities to take decisive action.
