{"id":13296,"date":"2019-08-09T11:11:09","date_gmt":"2019-08-09T18:11:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/?p=13296"},"modified":"2019-07-31T09:34:15","modified_gmt":"2019-07-31T16:34:15","slug":"canadian-millennials-homebuying-priorities-foundation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/2019\/08\/canadian-millennials-homebuying-priorities-foundation\/","title":{"rendered":"Canadian Millennial&#8217;s Homebuying Priorities &#038; Foundation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The key to a Canadian Millennial\u2019s heart is property.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So suggests a new worldwide survey sponsored by HSBC.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Beyond the Bricks survey of about 12,000 adults, including more than 1,000 Canadians, sheds light on Millennials\u2019 priorities, and just how integral real estate considerations can be to a relationship\u2019s foundation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Of Canadian Millennial respondents, one third say shared financial goals trump looks when picking a date.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Compared to the global set, Canadians generally appear more property hungry in at least one way.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some 30 percent say they would trim day-to-day spending, versus 11 percent internationally.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, Canadians are less willing to compromise when it comes to having children.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Internationally, 35 percent of respondents would delay having a child to afford property, compared to just 6 percent of Canadians.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In terms of holding off on big-ticket purchases like cars and luxury items, roughly 30 percent of Canadians are willing to go without. A similar share are open to going out less.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">That\u2019s in line with the global results.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Given how Canadian prioritize homeownership in their personal lives, it shouldn\u2019t come as a surprise that they spend hours a week researching property.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In fact, Canadians dedicate 2.08 hours a week to this task.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, while this may sound like a lot \u2014 especially since just 0.81 hours a week is spent reading to their children \u2014 Canadians\u2019 property-researching habits pale in comparison to those living in the United Arab Emirates, where 6.6 hours a week are lost to this.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the US, 4.95 hours a week is sunk in real estate viewing and reading.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">HSBC suggests that anxiety is behind Canadian Millennials choosing property prospects over looks, with 61 percent reporting they are anxious about buying property.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe anxiety millennials (and others) feel is justified,\u201d Barry Gollom, senior vice president of retail banking and wealth management products and propositions for HSBC Bank Canada, in a statement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cClose to 70% of Canadians own their home but less than 30% do so without a mortgage,\u201d Gollom adds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/2019\/07\/homebuying-goals-canadian-millennials-dating.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Homebuying Goals Score Higher Than Looks for Canadian Millennials When Dating<\/a> by Josh Sherman | Livabl<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The key to a Canadian Millennial\u2019s heart is property.
