{"id":15505,"date":"2020-05-06T11:11:00","date_gmt":"2020-05-06T18:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/?p=15505"},"modified":"2020-04-23T11:23:59","modified_gmt":"2020-04-23T18:23:59","slug":"home-sellers-to-wrestle-with-much-reduced-market-activity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/2020\/05\/home-sellers-to-wrestle-with-much-reduced-market-activity\/","title":{"rendered":"Home Sellers to Wrestle with Much-Reduced Market Activity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sellers losing significant value in their homes will be a prominent feature of the market over the next few months, said Stephen Brown, Capital Economics senior Canada economist.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cGiven the huge rise in unemployment and the cash flow problems that restrictions on tourism have caused investors in the short-term rental market, it seems likely that there will be some forced sellers in the coming months,\u201d Brown said earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These sellers \u201cwill inevitably have to accept lower bids,\u201d with much-reduced market activity compelling them to make their properties as attractive as possible.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And while other observers have pointed to the sector\u2019s remarkable resilience in terms of value, Capital Economics predicted a national price decline of 5% by July.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By the end of this month, the market should also brace for \u201can even steeper fall\u201d in sales to a \u201csmall fraction of their normal levels,\u201d Brown said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Boots on the ground have confirmed that this trend is already well underway: The coronavirus pandemic is shaping up to be a less than optimal environment for home sellers, London agent Joyce Byrne said late last month.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cMaybe they soften their price, maybe they open themselves up to conditional offers.
