{"id":18513,"date":"2021-09-07T10:10:00","date_gmt":"2021-09-07T17:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/?p=18513"},"modified":"2021-09-02T09:27:15","modified_gmt":"2021-09-02T16:27:15","slug":"voters-from-the-upcoming-federal-election-fix-the-housing-markets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/2021\/09\/voters-from-the-upcoming-federal-election-fix-the-housing-markets\/","title":{"rendered":"Voters from The Upcoming Federal Election : Fix The Housing Markets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Soaring home prices and a persistent shortage of affordable supply continues to worry Canadians, particularly younger generations who fear they will never become homeowners because of competitive market conditions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With the upcoming federal election set for Sept. 20, some voters are looking to the government for solutions to fix the country\u2019s chronic housing crisis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a new survey, Royal LePage found 40 per cent of respondents nationwide agreed that a political candidate\u2019s position on tackling the \u201chousing crisis\u201d will influence their vote. This number increased to 57% of those surveyed between the ages of 18 to 34, which is the highest among all of the survey\u2019s age groups.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Renters were more likely to agree that political positioning on housing would influence their vote, with 48% sharing this sentiment versus 35% of those who own a home.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Breaking down the survey\u2019s responses geographically, a candidate\u2019s position on the housing market is most likely to sway votes in British Columbia (48%), Ontario (46%) and Alberta (46%). The online Royal LePage survey gathered answers from 1,527 Canadians.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAccess to housing is a fundamental human right, for without adequate shelter, a family lacks the foundation upon which they can live and work safely and with dignity,\u201d said Phil Soper, president and CEO of Royal LePage, in the report. \u201cIn this election, Canadians are demanding ideas, answers and a commitment to address the nation\u2019s housing supply and affordability crisis. The growing housing deficiency in this country is one of the great threats to our prosperity as a people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The vast majority of those surveyed (84%) expressed concerns that rising home prices would prevent an increasing number of Canadians from attaining homeownership. In the 18 to 34 age group category, this rises to 88%. Respondents in Atlantic Canada (86%), Ontario (85%) and British Columbia (84%) were the most likely to feel concerned about rising prices making homeownership less achievable for Canadians.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">All three major political parties have released their campaign housing platforms, with proposed policies aimed at controlling foreign ownership, new taxes and boosting supply.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe 2021 federal election has seen housing policy become a headline priority and key leadership promise in all major party platforms,\u201d said Soper. \u201cRoyal LePage is encouraged to see that addressing housing shortages is a top priority, a sign that concerned Canadians are being heard,\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Soper added that while tax and grant programs can benefit new buyers, addressing housing supply shortages will tackle the \u201croot cause of this crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livabl.com\/2021\/08\/voters-housing-market-fixes-royal-lepage.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Royal LePage : Voters Want Housing Market Fixes<\/a> by Michelle McNally | Livabl<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Soaring home prices and a persistent shortage of affordable supply continues to worry Canadians, particularly younger generations who fear they will never become homeowners because of competitive market conditions.
