Some features can have you on the fence when shopping for a home. If you’re looking at a home with a yard but aren’t quite sure you want one, there are a few extra things you’ll want to keep in mind before making your decision. Here are three things to ponder before making an offer.<\/p>\n

Maintenance and Upkeep<\/strong>
\nIf you’re looking for a low-maintenance home, a house with a yard may not be the right fit. Yards require regular upkeep, including mowing the lawn, weeding, trimming bushes and trees, and more. If you’re not prepared to put in the time and effort to maintain your yard, it will quickly become overgrown and unruly. Of course, you could hire landscapers to come and take care of those things, but there is going to be a higher cost associated with that portion of your real estate investment. There are plenty of homes for sale with no yard, or even with maintenance-free environment-scaping that might be better suited to you!<\/p>\n

Glorious Space<\/strong>
\nIf you are one of those people or families that is very active and likes to have get-togethers, a yard may be the perfect way to extend your living space. It can be a safe place for kids to play, pets to roam and adults to relax. If you have regular gatherings or parties, a yard can provide the perfect amount of extra space for entertaining guests. When shopping for a home, it may take some time to find the perfect yard for you. As buildable land is in higher demand, lot sizes are compromised and that means yards are getting smaller. Your realtor will be able to pinpoint what areas still have generously sized yards to fit your needs.<\/p>\n

Aesthetics<\/strong>
\nBelieve it or not, historically, yards and landscapes play a grand role in the curb appeal and value of a home. Part of the reason is that it used to be that only the wealthy could afford to have expansive yards. The average person didn’t have the time or money to maintain a large piece of property, so it became a status symbol. Thankfully, those days are mostly gone, but that doesn’t mean that yards aren’t important when it comes to your home’s value. Landscaping and hardscaping can be expensive, but it’s worth it if you plan on reselling your home in the future.<\/p>\n

Purchasing a home with a yard is a huge decision. Consider all of the factors before making your final choice and do the research to find out what maintenance costs will look like over a year. This should really help you in making a decision that you’ll be happy with for years to come!<\/p>\n
