{"id":2478,"date":"2016-06-28T10:10:03","date_gmt":"2016-06-28T17:10:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/?p=2478"},"modified":"2016-06-27T11:32:57","modified_gmt":"2016-06-27T18:32:57","slug":"td-clearer-signs-of-housing-slowdown-unlikely-to-be-visible-until-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/2016\/06\/td-clearer-signs-of-housing-slowdown-unlikely-to-be-visible-until-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"TD : Clearer Signs of Housing Slowdown Unlikely to be Visible Until 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While knowing exactly when the long-feared correction in Canada\u2019s red-hot housing markets would occur remains difficult due to various unpredictable factors, signs that \u201cthe party will come to an end\u201d are not likely to be visible until next year, according to TD Bank.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a June 17 report by CBC News, TD\u2019s latest quarterly economic forecast predicted more moderate resales and price growth due to weaker demand brought about by worsening affordability and rising borrowing costs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHowever, barring significant new government regulatory measures to curb housing market speculation later this year, more concrete signs of a housing market slowdown are unlikely to be seen until 2017,\u201d the Bank reported.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cEven then, there tends to be a lag before weaker resale demand translates into a moderation in building activity,\u201d it stated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The prevailing malaise in the national economy\u2014which encountered another setback just last month as the energy sector weakened further due to the Fort McMurray blaze\u2014would make Canada\u2019s central bank not keen on an interest rate hike in the near future.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe believe the Bank of Canada will likely want to keep its foot on the accelerator for as long as possible, and is not likely to begin raising its policy interest rate until 2018,\u201d TD said in its report.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Alberta wildfire dented TD\u2019s projections of national economic growth from 1.9% to 1.3% by the end of 2016.
