Any real estate pro will tell you that curb appeal can&#8217;t be neglected\u2014it&#8217;s your home&#8217;s first impression, after all.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We checked in with two real estate pros to find out their top tips for upping a home\u2019s curb appeal, and were thrilled to learn there was instant agreement on which element of your home\u2019s exterior is most critical when it comes to a potential buyer&#8217;s first impressions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The Key to Curb Appeal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Both our experts confirmed our suspicions. When it comes to your home&#8217;s exterior, the front door is the most important element for setting the tone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThink of your front door as your headline,\u201d says real estate pro Charlie Lankston. \u201cIt\u2019s one of the first details that draws the eye, and sets the stage for the story your home is about to tell.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Real estate agent Tim Yee wholeheartedly agrees.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFar and away, the most important element is the front door of the home,\u201d he says. \u201cIt is what every buyer sees first and with which they form their first impressions before even entering.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As Lankston points out, this rule also applies to every aesthetic\u2014from a sleek and modern entrance to a classic craftsman setup.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cA well-presented entryway instantly boosts a property&#8217;s visual impact and perceived value,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>How to Have A Great Front Door?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If your front door is looking a little worse for wear, there are a few things you can do to turn this around before listing, or just for a nice refresh.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Replace It Entirely<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If your current door is dated, broken, or a style mismatch for the rest of the home, Yee says you might what to consider replacing it entirely.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cChange out the front door if it\u2019s not in good condition or detracts from the overall elevation of the home,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Replacing your front door might be costly, but it\u2019s also potentially unnecessary. A fresh coat of paint could be exactly what you need, and ideally in an eye-catching hue.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Change the Paint<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cDeep navy, forest green, or rich black are timeless and buyer-friendly,\u201d says Lankston, who also warns against going too bold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If your taste skews more bright and bold, consider turning down the volume for now.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNeon doors and overly stylized decor might make a splash, but they can turn off potential buyers looking for a fresh canvas,\u201d Lankston explains.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Upgrade the Details<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Next, you can update the hardware, add a new welcome mat, and flank the door with planters or lanterns.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThese touches create a crisp, curated first impression without requiring a full reno,\u201d says Lankston.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Once you\u2019ve painted your door, you might notice that other elements surrounding your front door now look neglected. If your eye is drawn to peeling paint, dated lighting, or an abundance of clutter, chances are, potential buyers will feel the same way.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThese can all distract from a home\u2019s charm,\u201d says Lankston.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Consider the Message You\u2019re Sending<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Along with indicating what potential buyers might find inside, Yee says your front door could also signal certain messages around the neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSome homes have security bars,\u201d he says. \u201cIn addition to possibly being a fire hazard for ingress and egress, they can leave potential buyers feeling that the neighborhood may be unsafe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If this applies to your home, consider swapping having these removed or upgraded to adhere to safety regulations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>5 Other Ways to Increase Curb Appeal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Both Lankston and Yee shared a few additional ways to amp up the curb appeal and once again, the professional guidance is clear: It\u2019s all in the details.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 Add a fresh coat of paint to any other areas that are peeling, cracking, or faded.<br \/>\n\u2022 Mow the lawn.<br \/>\n\u2022 Plant a few flowers, particularly if you\u2019re selling in the warmer months.<br \/>\n\u2022 Trim hedges and manicure any garden paths\u2014especially the one that leads to the front door.<br \/>\n\u2022 Consider letting your neighbors know you\u2019re selling.
