What colors and materials are hot in kitchen countertops, backsplashes, and appliances? To find out, the National Association of Home Builders culled the data from its own surveys as well as from Houzz, a remodeling website, and the Home Innovation Research Labs\u2019 2016 Builder Practices Survey, a survey of more than 1,300 homebuilders.<\/p>\n

The surveys provide insight into what new kitchens look like, NAHB notes on its blog, Eye on Housing. \u201cNew kitchens tend to have granite countertops, raised panel wood cabinets, and come with a standard set of appliances, such as cooktops and ranges, microwaves, dishwashers, and garbage disposals. New kitchens also have white, multi-colored, or wood-based color themes, and are complemented by stainless steel appliances.\u201d<\/p>\n

Take a look at some of the findings.<\/p>\n

The most popular countertops for new homes are :
\n\u2022 64% granite countertops
\n\u2022 14% laminate countertops
\n\u2022 9% engineered stone and solid-surface countertops<\/p>\n

The least desired kitchen feature: Laminate countertops, according to NAHB\u2019s Consumer Preference Survey. The affordability of laminate may be a reason why they still remain popular, the survey speculates.<\/p>\n

The most popular countertop colors, according to Houzz consumer surveys, are :
\n\u2022 30% multi-colored
\n\u2022 26% white
\n\u2022 18% black<\/p>\n

The most popular backsplash colors :
\n\u2022 26% white backsplashes
\n\u2022 13% beige
\n\u2022 12% multi-colored
\n\u2022 6% gray<\/p>\n

The most popular color for cabinetry :
\n\u2022 34% white
\n\u2022 20% wood \u2013 medium tone
\n\u2022 9% gray
\n\u2022 7% wood \u2013 dark tone
\n\u2022 6% multi-colored<\/p>\n

The most popular colors of appliances :
\n\u2022 79% stainless steel
\n\u2022 6% black
\n\u2022 4% white<\/p>\n
