{"id":3857,"date":"2016-11-04T11:11:17","date_gmt":"2016-11-04T18:11:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/?p=3857"},"modified":"2016-11-03T19:01:40","modified_gmt":"2016-11-04T02:01:40","slug":"why-now-is-the-time-to-sell-a-house-that-needs-repairs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/2016\/11\/why-now-is-the-time-to-sell-a-house-that-needs-repairs\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Now is the Time to Sell a House That Needs Repairs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There aren\u2019t enough homes on the market in many parts of the country to satisfy potential buyers, and many of the homes that are available need work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There are now 12 percent more fixer-uppers on the market than there were five years ago, according to a new Zillow analysis. That\u2019s because rising home prices and weak inventory are prompting more homeowners to list their properties without making repairs before selling them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSellers are in the driver\u2019s seat, with the freedom to list their home for sale \u2018as-is\u2019 without worrying about price cuts or the home sitting on the market,\u201d Zillow chief economist Svenja Gudell said in a statement. \u201cAnd without sufficient new construction, the housing stock has aged, so home buyers are finding more and more homes on the market in need of a little TLC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The trend is more apparent among the most expensive homes, where the percentage of fixer-uppers on the market increased by 35 percent from 2011 through 2015, compared to just a 2.6 percent increase at the low end of the market.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Zillow study looked at homes with listings that used words that might indicate fixer-uppers, such as \u201cfixer upper,\u201d \u201cTLC,\u201d and \u201cneeds work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The age of homes for sale has also increased dramatically, more than doubling over the past decade.
