{"id":7991,"date":"2018-01-18T10:10:51","date_gmt":"2018-01-18T18:10:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/?p=7991"},"modified":"2018-01-12T15:22:04","modified_gmt":"2018-01-12T23:22:04","slug":"bc-home-sales-expected-to-dip-in-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/2018\/01\/bc-home-sales-expected-to-dip-in-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"BC Home Sales Expected to Dip in 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For a third consecutive year, BC home sales exceeded 100,000 units in 2017 \u2014 the longest series of annual sales totals of that magnitude on record, says the British Columbia Real Estate Association (BCREA).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But the organization says that this trend won\u2019t hold up in 2018.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to BCREA Chief Economist Cameron Muir, home sales are expected to drop this year thanks to a variety of headwinds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cTighter mortgage regulations for conventional mortgage borrowers now is going to impact their purchasing power,\u201d Muir tells BuzzBuzzNews.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSome additional increases in interest rates in 2018 will impact affordability. And also in many markets the price level has risen quite significantly over the past couple of years,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the BCREA\u2019s latest data, published today, a total of 103,763 homes sold across the province in 2017, down 7.5% from 2016.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Muir anticipates that roughly 95,000 units will change hands this year, representing a 7 to 8% drop compared to 2017.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Although transactions are predicted to fall in 2018, Muir adds that sales are expected to be well above the 10-year average of 85,000 units.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To meet demand in 2018, Muir anticipates that more inventory will enter the market.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe\u2019ll likely see some additional supply particularly on the new home side, which will help at least trend markets towards a little bit more balance.
