{"id":8280,"date":"2018-02-20T15:15:40","date_gmt":"2018-02-20T23:15:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/?p=8280"},"modified":"2018-02-16T09:39:55","modified_gmt":"2018-02-16T17:39:55","slug":"baby-boomers-strongest-investments-lie-in-residential-real-estate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/2018\/02\/baby-boomers-strongest-investments-lie-in-residential-real-estate\/","title":{"rendered":"Baby Boomers&#8217; Strongest Investments Lie in Residential Real Estate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Canadian baby boomers\u2019 investments in real estate outperform their other financial assets, a recent report from Mustel Group and Sotheby\u2019s International Realty Canada has revealed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In particular, over half (61%) of the age group in the country\u2019s four largest metropolitan areas \u2013 Calgary, Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver \u2013 said their real estate investments fared better than their RRSPs, TFSAs, stocks, and bonds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Overall, 47% anticipate real estate gains to exceed their financial investments, while 28% expect on par performance. Furthermore, this group believes buying real estate in their city is a positive financial move, with 57% deeming it a \u201cvery good\u201d or \u201cgood\u201d investment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFor many generations of Canadians, home ownership has been fundamental to long-term financial planning, security and wealth creation, even as local real estate markets have fluctuated in the short-term,\u201d said Brad Henderson, president and CEO of Sotheby\u2019s International Realty Canada.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt\u2019s no surprise that baby boomers remain bullish about real estate in spite of recent headwinds that have introduced new uncertainty into the Canadian real estate market, and in light of record performances by US stock indexes in the past year,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Baby boomers from Vancouver and Toronto were more likely to indicate that their property investments have outperformed financial investments, at 72% and 68% respectively. The figures stood at 47% for Montreal and 46% for Calgary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some 74% of those surveyed would recommend investing in real estate to the next generation of Canadian home buyers.
