{"id":9926,"date":"2018-08-02T10:10:39","date_gmt":"2018-08-02T17:10:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/?p=9926"},"modified":"2018-07-31T12:44:14","modified_gmt":"2018-07-31T19:44:14","slug":"canadian-optimism-toward-housing-has-frayed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.roryc.ca\/blog\/2018\/08\/canadian-optimism-toward-housing-has-frayed\/","title":{"rendered":"Canadian Optimism Toward Housing Has Frayed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The latest Housing and Mortgage Market in Canada report by Mortgage Professionals Canada revealed that stricter government measures are pushing consumers towards a more negative outlook for housing and real estate nationwide.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In particular, the study pointed at increasing interest rates and tighter mortgage qualification requirements as the main factors eroding Canadian consumers\u2019 sentiments, despite many respondents still indicating a belief that real estate remains a good investment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe are still seeing a high level of desire in home-buying, especially among young people aged 25-34,\u201d MPC president and CEO Paul Taylor said. \u201cWhether they will be able to make that purchase may be an entirely different matter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe support a stress test, albeit at a reduced rate of 0.75%, as it is a useful tool to test a borrower\u2019s ability to make future payments,\u201d Taylor added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHowever, the cumulative impact of rising rates, a 2% or greater stress test, provincial government rules in Ontario and British Columbia, and further lending restrictions are negatively supressing housing activity not just in Toronto and Vancouver, but throughout the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The report warned that federal policies which would lead to a decline in housing prices will trigger a reduction in home equity, thus further wearing down consumer confidence and leading to shrinking spending, slower economic growth, and reduced jobs creation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadianrealestatemagazine.ca\/news\/canadian-optimism-toward-housing-has-frayed--report-245789.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canadian Optimism Toward Housing Has Frayed<\/a> by Ephraim Vecina | Canadian Real Estate Wealth<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The latest Housing and Mortgage Market in Canada report by Mortgage Professionals Canada revealed that stricter government measures are pushing consumers towards a more negative outlook for housing and real &hellip;
