Apartments and condos do not have a lot of space that tenants can personalize. However, many units do include a balcony. Some are larger than others, though they all typically end up looking the same… a few plants here and there and maybe some patio furniture. If you are looking for fun and interesting ways to spruce up your exterior so that it is not “just another balcony,” then read on for some helpful tips and ideas.

Create an Outdoor Mini Bar
If you are the type who likes to entertain guests and does so often, then consider including your balcony in the fun by creating a fun mini bar. You do not need anything elaborate. It can be as simple as plugging in a mini fridge and installing a couple of shelves for wine glasses.

Natural Elements
Add a touch of nature to your balcony. In addition to potted plants, consider creating a small rock garden or designing your own door mat using rocks, stones, and tiles. Transform your entire balcony into a mini garden or tropical oasis. Wicker or wooden furnishings, bamboo walls, tiki torches, plants, and rock gardens will all go a long way into creating a peaceful atmosphere where you can relax and unwind after a long day.

Hammocks
Forget regular, boring old patio furniture. Invest in wicker tables and a hammock to make your balcony look and feel more peaceful and serene. Add a couple of pillows for extra comfort and decoration.

Modern Balcony
Modern design is all about symmetry and clean, even lines and shapes. In lieu of patio furniture, place a bench along the railing or wall of your balcony and add other elements that are rectangular in shape… bamboo, rectangular pots filled with plants, shelves, a sink, and more. The main idea is to keep it simple and symmetrical.

Alternative Office Space
If you are in a quiet or currently undeveloped part of the city (or you are the type who thrives in chaos and noisy environments), you may consider converting your balcony into an office space. This is especially beneficial if you are a creative person and have scenic views that can help inspire you as you work. Nothing reduces stress like the great outdoors, so why not try to get as close to that as possible while you work so that you can have a more enjoyable, productive workday?
