Planning your first major move can also be a major source of stress. Fortunately, there are tips and tricks that can help make your move go much more smoothly. The following three tips are sure to help you move like a pro, even if you are a novice.

Tip #1 : Pack like a professional

There’s a few tricks professional movers know that can help you pack for a smoother move. These include the following :
• Keep your boxes under 25 to 30 pounds. This means heavy items, like books, go in smaller boxes.
• Pack one room at a time and don’t combine items from different rooms.
• Label every side of the box, since you don’t which will be easiest to see when unloading. A simple way to do this is to assign a number to each room, then simply write the number on the box
• Take a photo before disassembly. If you need to take something apart to pack it, photograph the way it goes together first. Also, keep all pieces and screws in a bag taped to the item or in the box with it.

Tip #2 : Create an oasis room

The secret to a low-stress move is to have a place where you can relax almost immediately after arriving at your new home. For many people, this will be the bedroom. Make sure the truck is loaded in such a way so that the bed can be unloaded and assembled first. You may even want to bring the bed linens with you in your own car so you can set them up. Place all the furniture in the room and then stack the boxes in the closet so you won’t have to deal with visual moving clutter when you need to unwind from the moving process.

Tip #3 : Have a back-up plan

If you are moving long distance and can’t get into the house right away, arrange for storage ahead of time. Opt for secure storage that is easily accessible, so you can access anything you need while you wait for your new home to be ready for move-in. Make sure you get the right size when reserving your unit. US Storage, with storage units in Alhambra, recommends a 10-by-15 foot unit for a two bedroom home, or a 10-by-20 foot unit for a five bedroom house. Making sure you have the right size ahead of time will help you avoid headaches on arrival.

While the actual process of moving may not be fun, there is no need to allow for undue stress and anxiety. A bit of planning combined with knowing some helpful strategies will have you moving like an expert.
